Just wanted to share something that happened in the still of the night at my place last night.

My much loved Abraham is currently experiencing random bouts of tail floating, me and my vet are still in the process of working out why, he's not constipated (poo's regularily) still eating like normal and is currently on a dose of antibiotics/medicine (vet presribed of course) for what may be a tummy infection causing the float.. anyway... when Abe's has his bouts of floating I've been taking him out and putting him in a tupperware container just covered with water to help him stay more level and then float the container ontop of the tank (the tank is chilled) until his floating stops, last nite I checked on him around 12.15am nothing out of the ordinary report, and this morning when I got up I found him back in the bottom of the tank!! No floating, just sitting there with what seemed to be a content/cheeky grin on his face.. I noticed he had pooed during the night and it was almost like, "phew it sinks in here, my legs are back down level with the ground.. I'M OUTTA HERE!!" Would love to know how he maganed it...

My Abraham is definitely one personality packed Axie!

Just my flatmate but she never checked on him during the night (she leaves all things "Abraham" up to me)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
