I would just like to thank everyone for the help I have recieved. If it wasn't for you guys I would have had two dead axolotls and would be allowed no more :(. Thankfully, you guys showed me what I was doing wrong and my axies look to be growing big and strong (Pebbles loves to bite my finger and not let go :) ).

They now have sand instead of gravel and love it. I also added some plants (fake ones for now) and they love to sit on top of them. I have started up a worm farm, they love their worms now instead of the fronzen meat I was originally told to give them.

I haven't upgraded their tank yet, have to wait to be paid so I can go buy them a new one, but I worked out I can fit a 1.2m tank in the room so hopefully the two of them will love to have a nice big tank to swim around in.

Thank you so much everyone for all your help, will post photos of their new tank when I get it.

Thats great news, looking forward to pics ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
