Hello all!

I am from just outside London in the UK and am the proud owner of four beautiful Axolotls; two leucistic boys, Pinky and Romeo, a brown girl, Annie and a golden Albino, Tarquin.

Tarquin and Romeo are Brothers, Romeo being named as such due to his (unsuccessful) attempts to romance Annie. Annie is the youngest of the four and likes to scare me by hiding behind the filter (of which she is exactly the same colour as) and making me think she's escaped!

Pinky is an old axolotl that I rescued from a lab several years ago. When I got him he had no limbs, half a tail and no gills. He now has four deformed limbs, no gills and a full tail.... However he's super friendly, greedy, and doesn't seem troubled by his lack of gills and unusual limbs.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
