I posted an ad looking for some Axy eggs and got a reply fast. I wasn't expecting anyone to really reply, but I am excited that someone did! The eggs arrived today and I'm so excited to hatch them out and grow them up!! Here are some pictures. Some of them aren't very good. I need to invest in a good macro lens for my camera.

They look great! Good luck hatching/raising them

congratulations, hope you have success with them. Its awesome watching them grow from their egg to hatchlings. Do you know what type they are, looks like in pics they could be albino, or it could be the light reflecting, i,m sure its only albino eggs that are white. How old are they?

Thanks!! The flash kind of washed them out, but I was told they will be Wild Type/Melanoid. Their bellies are turning really white, though as they are developing. Is that normal? When I got them they were about 10 days old or so. I've had them for 3 days, so they are about 13 days or so now?

So i imagine you will probably have some hatching soon, as for the bellies changing colour, maybe you have a few that will be different than wildtype, my leucistic hatchlings started life as a brown/black egg but are now almost opaque/clear/seethrough. How many eggs did you get/trying to hatch?

That's exciting! I was mainly hoping for Melanoid, but I am happy with Wild Type too. They are all pretty colors. If I get babies that are something other then those then that's a plus! I got about 30 eggs or so and plan to hatch and try to get all to survive, but I know that's impossible. So, I hope most of them make it. It'll be a learning experience, that's for sure. :)

I bought 20 eggs and originally would have been happy if 2 managed to live and grow up, but within 10 minutes of getting them home i did'nt want to lose any. 9 of the eggs failed to develop, and 11 hatched, i've had 2 casualties, one unexplainable the other was not developing, my 9 are on day 36 and its great watching them grow, i hope you enjoy the experience,,,,,do you have or have you ever kept axolotls?

I'm already enjoying it! I keep looking at them like every 10 minutes to see if anything has changed. lol. They are wiggling more now. :D

I have never kept an Axolotl, but I have kept plenty of other things. :)

Its head doing waiting for them to hatch, i was the same, constantly checking for any changes, mind you it kept me fit, running up an down the stairs. Axolotls are my first amphibian/reptile type of animal (aquatic i know), but now there is quite a few different lizard/salamander/reptiles that are catching my eyes. Cant wait till my little hatchlings are about 3 months old as they are just awesome from that age.

great pics! I'm about to do the same thing myself, finally decided on axolotls after much research, hoping to get some eggs of my own soon! Its good to see others new to axolotls have good experiences raising eggs.

I always find it more rewarding to raise babies up. It makes me feel good about myself when I can say "Hey, I raised that from just an egg!" :)

I had to share my excitement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to go lay down for a nap and before I was going to lay down I figured I'd check on the eggs. I found one baby has hatched!!!!!!!!!!! I will try to get some pictures, but I know they won't be too good.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
