Sorry I'm not on here much to socialise, anytime I'm on it seems I have a problem!

My axie's back end has been practically vertical for a few days now. As far as I know she hasn't pood, so from looking at a few posts I know it could be constipation. I haven't changed her food so I don't think it is that. Otherwise she seems fine, she's still eating and walking about (on her two front legs, bless her) and being her usual nosy self.

As I said i've had a look through some other posts so I know it could be constipation, but for the length of time it has been, should I fridge her? and if so, can I get some details about this? Hate the thought of doing that to her...

And just another few things I want to ask while I'm here... what does axie poop actually look like? I've never seen her do one, but I know there has been what I think is poop in the tank, but I noticed someone said that their axie had vomited, so I'm wondering if thats what I've been seeing and now I'm worried lol.

Also, someone mentioned eating sand. Is this harmful? Sometimes if she's eating from the bottom of the tank sand will get caught up in it, but she doesn't go eating sand voluntarily as far as I've noticed, so can this cause blockage?

I just get a bit worried when I come on here as people mention such specific things axies should and shouldn't be doing, and so I think to myself have I ever seen her do that and am I being negligent? :(

I'm sorry if some of these things have been answered before, my internet is very tempremental so sometimes I click on posts and it doesn't load :(

Any help would be brilliant guys, I've had her for about a year now but I'm still learning!!

It seems fridging often makes them poop right away, so you could give it a shot if you're worried. :)

Fridging actually slows down their metabolisms, but it seems they react to the initial cold temperature by relieving themselves, perhaps to prepare to expend less energy. So you should get results quickly.

Behold, axie poo ! If you don't catch it within a few hours of it being expelled, it will turn into a pile of dust.

Sand can cause blockage, but I wouldn't worry too much about it if it's just a tiny bit of sand while scooping up food.

To prevent sand during feeding, you can feed on a dish / bowl (like a reptile one, or even a regular tea saucer), or in such a way that the food never touches the bottom. :) Dropping well, turkey baster, little forceps, et cetera.

Wow, Chirpie !!!!...:D:D Thats one great pic !! :ha:.... I am patiently waiting for Lottie to do one, after not eating for a month... (she has been eating now for about 6 days, so has to do one soon, surely) ?? ;)

A pic of your "ballerina axie " would be good, Trinie...sounds intriguing !?

Thanks very much, it has been poo after all! I'm just panicking. But for such little creatures, it really is quite impressive isn't it...

Okay so I've just popped her in the fridge just now, Came home this morning and she's REALLY bloated, and still handstanding like she's in the circus. So worried about her :( I've no idea if she's picked up a stone or something, I don't know. As far as I can see I got all the stones out when I switched her into a bigger tank...

But anyway, we'll give this a shot, thanks for the info Chirpie :) If this doesn't work and shes still alive I dont know what I'll do next :/

Fingers crossed :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
