Hey!

Finally, on the second day of fridging, Totosha pooed out a couple of stones, not extremely big ones, but that's a good sign. Hoping for more, as the belly is still a bit blown.

Is it normal for his cloaca to enlarge for a while after pooing stones out? I guess so.

Here is the picture :) :

Take a look at this article:
Photos of Sick Axolotls

If your axolotl looks like the one that's constipated, then it's probably normal. If it looks more like the prolapse on that page then it's something you need to worry about.

Hopefully your axie makes a full recovery and pops out the rest of the stones. And I hope you've removed them all from the tank! ;)

No no no, nothing like that! Woof, that was horrifying!

His cloaca is just a bit enlarged, not like to one side or red as in the picture.

He looks alright, just very slow because of the slowed melabolism. Hope to see some new rocks, and, yes, I removed all the gravel completely.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
