hi im craig from belfast i actually keep oscar fish but ive always wanted an axolotl but couldnt find any in belfast.just got a batch of 20 eggs should be hatching in 2 or 3 days ive them in my kitchen but the water temp is 18 degrees is that to cold for them
 
18C is just fine. Welcome to the forum!
 
good luck with the eggs.
I have only had my axis for a couple of weeks but I was a sell out, I got mine grown on because I didn't even know what a Daphnia was :/

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
