Hi.
I might be having a silly question, but how often and how much would you feed axolotls? :) Mine two guys are 16cm long, am not sure about the age, but you can clearly see they are males :) Have been having them for 1,5 months, and they are always hungry, as it seems :p
From my experience with aquarium fish, good fish - hungry fish, but don't think same rule applies to axolotls :)
Can they overeat guppies, if I add some, so they don't get bored eating from hands, and got to do something to get their food :)?
Thanks.

PS: I feed them defrosted red bloodworms and prawns.

Guppies aren't the best, unless you breed your own. Pet shop guppies are notorious for carrying disease.

You could get a few and breed them as feeder fish.

Have you tried earthworms? Usually I feed my adults every two or three days, a little more often in the summer. They each get 1/2 a nightcrawler.

It is Winter where I live atm so can't really get any earthworms :) But will definitely go hunting in Spring :p Thank you.
Is it possible to actually tell the age (more or less) by the size of the axolotl?

I've had adults that size. Usually they reach that size by the time they're ~7 months old.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
