Today I woke up and checked on my newts. Everything was fine, they were healthy looking, lively and the water in their cage was clean. So knowing that all was good I went to pick some things up.

Anyway, I returned home about two hours later and when I went to check on my two Newts they were dead. But what was really strange was the fact that they were suddenly boney (they were chubby two hours earlier), they were dried out and their eyes were sunk in. They were lying side by side on the rock that they used to climb out of the water. I really don't understand what happened.

But, all that aside...

R.I.P Libby & Linus. You will be missed.

What is the water quality like? When was the last time you checked it?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
