Hi,
I've just got up to find my gold albino floating towards the top of the tank. She took a gulp of air and then just floated about an inch from the surface. Normally she falls steadily back to the bottom but today it seems like she has to swim just to get back down.

After about a minute she started to drop but then she just stayed halfway up the tank and started swimming round. She's back on the floor now but every time she goes to the top (don't know why she does it because my other one never does and the water is close to perfect) she floats listlessly for minutes at a time.

Please help! Is this normal behaviour or is there something wrong with her?

Thanks

That's because the big gulp of air in her lungs is making her buoyant. Once she spits it back out, she sinks to the bottom. It's normal.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
