My axololtl has laid eggs today and have noticed some fungus on her gill stalk.

Is it okay to salt bath her or shall I leave her a day or two so she can rest?

I dont want to stress her out after shes laid a batch and its not too bad and I dont know if shes finished laying as she tends to lay lots then lay a few later on.

Any suggestions? Keeping her nice and clean and its freezing where I live at the moment, water is nice and cool

Thank you:happy:

I wouldnt do salt baths at the moment. Try and get a cotton tip and see if you can gently brush the fungusy stuff away and then just keep an very close eye on her. Keep her tank cool and clean and if the fungus comes back then you will have to do a salt bath. Oh give her an extra worm for dinner

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
