Hi, and sorry for the (probably) silly questions, but I am new to all this, and want to make sure that I get it right. I am hoping to get an axie (or 2) in the next few months, and was wondering whether to keep one on it's own or keep 2 together. Do they prefer company, or would one be happy on it's own with more space? I am planning on getting a 20 gallon long or 3ft tank to house them. Would this tank size be adequate?

Thanks

That tank would be fine for two or three. They don't require companionship, but many people feel keeping them together is more interactive and entertaining, with the possibility of breeding them if so desired.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
