Hey everyone!

I just bought another axolotl today, so now I have two, one bigger one and one smaller. I used to feed my bigger one freezer food but I didn't really like giving it because I never knew for sure if he ate it. I switched to earth worms now, but I was wondering how many do I have to feed them? I gave an entire one to my big axolotl (Castiel) and some cut up bits to my smaller one (Dean) today. Should I keep doing this or does Dean also need a whole earth worm or more? Also, I feed them every day because I don't want to take any risks. (You know, Castiel biting Dean.) Is this bad?

Thanks in advance,
Cherry.

I think your small one may end up being a snack for the larger one himself. You should feed them enough so that their belly is as wide as their head, more or less. Rounded, but not fat.

You should also remove all the little pebbles that are buried in your sand. If one of your axolotl takes a mind to eat one, it may lead to deadly impaction.

The pebbles are big, they don't fit in their mouths.
And yeah I've been feeding them every day now, only been feeding one worm each though I hope that's enough.
Thanks a lot for the advice. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
