Hi, I have just picked up a 3foot tank from a lovely free cycler, but I am now wondering what to do to clean it. It is covered in limescale, as we have hard water here, and I am not sure what to use to clean it off. I don't want to use any harsh chemicals which might harm my new axies. Also, if the tank had been used for fish, is there a possibility that there could be anything left in it that could harm them? I know I'm probably being neurotic, but I have spent so long researching as I don't want to harm them. Thanks!

I like to use vinegar to remove hard water buildup and rinse, rinse, rinse. I use a mild solution of vinegar and water to clean out and sanitize the tanks when I clean them monthly, but I do a lot of rinsing afterwards.

Thank you, I used a scalpel and some White vinegar and it looks shiny as new

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
