Steve is a young axolotl, and i feed him two maggots a day and he done really well on them, he was under weight when we got him but his body now the same size as his head. but today he was sick and pooping all day... really worried... what wrong with him??? he also floating... please help :(

maggots are a bad diet, stop feeding him them and switch to earth worms or if you can't get them, bloodworms for now. You can easily get earthworms from Worms Direct.

why the maggots bad? what size of worms? i tired blood worm... he wouldn't eat them, will he be ok being sick so much? thanks for replying so quickly :)

i have sand, cause i read that gravel is a big no, the water tempt is 15, he looking alot better this morning looking fed, so will i gave him one maggot or just throw them out and order earthworms?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
