Hi I'm Jo,

I live in the UK and I have a 15year old Paddle tail newt called Romy. I found this site by googling for info regarding 'fire bellies' as that is how my newt was sold to me. Turns out he is a paddle tail and has not had the best environment over the years due to this mix up.

I am gradually adjusted his set up and now he is a happy paddle tail. I will post pics later.

I am also involved in 'Toad watch' Toadwatch home helping local toads migrate safely during breeding season.

I love anything to do with amphibians, general wildlife and marine biology.

Welcome to the forum Jo.

I've got 2 paddletails called Imi and Rissi, they were sold under the name 'fire bellied newts' too. Do you have any pictures of Romy? I'd love to have a look at him :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
