Around xmas the roughly 300 eggs my axie laid started to hatch. Right now they're all in their own individual custom made mini-tanks (made by my awesome friend) and they each get bloodworms and a full waterchange every day.

I will be selling the little guys at the reptile and exotic pet expo this Sunday. (I hope it's ok to put a link: Ontario Reptile & Exotic Pet Expo ) So if any of you or anyone you know is interested in getting a juvenile axolotl, and they live in southern Ontario. I hope to see you there!

Here are a few pics of my axolotl rearing setup and of the little guys themselves.

Oh wow! those little tanks are awesome! How much space does that all take up?

Each of the little tanks measures 3"x4"x3", there are roughly 300 of them. Doing some quick math (3x4x300/12) they take up about about 300 square ft of space, not including the huge buckets of dechlorinated water that I use for all of their daily water changes.

No small undertaking, but I think it's worth the effort though. Not many people seem to be able/inclined to raise larger quantities of axies in this part of Canada. I think that's part of why they're so hard to come by around here.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
