We are keeping a few tanks with several different newts and other animals. We stumbled across this site when one of our paddle tails got sick and found great information! We are thankful to have a place to gain insight from the experiences of others.

Along with the paddle tails, we also have fire bellies, easterns and a lesser siren. We have marble, two-lined, spotted and dusky salamanders.

We're glad to meet you all!

Thank you Julia, we have learned so much already. I must say I am envious of the beautiful species of newts that you have a crossed the pond..

Welcome to you both, sounds like a nice collection you have there

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
