Hi all,
If we're starting with approximately 2"axolotls, does anyone know how fast they'll grow? And do they stay transparent as they get bigger?

thanks for your help.

I think it depends on how much you feed them, And how well they're kept, Anyone can correct me if i'm wrong, But in my experience, They grow pretty darn Fast! :p And No, No they don't stay transparent.

Thank you Ally, they are eating like tiny monsters, and I truly love all my little amphib's, so I do maintain a very clean tank. Bummer they do not stay transparent, so cool to see the little heart beat.

I have recently hatched my first eggs I feed them daphnia and baby brine shrimp though because of the small size of there food I can never really tell if they have eaten or how much, the person I got the eggs from said the ones she hatched seem to grow slower than others she knows of but what should I expect from my own size wise over the weeks?

If your little ones are eating enough then it should be fairly obvious, especially if you're feeding bbs! Their tummys will turn bright orange and will get so round it looks like they might pop :p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
