What is the best way to do this? They were due to be posted tuesday but the fella never got back in touch and they started hatching, on day 8. So far some are at the final development stage and twitching away, others are still developing. What is the most humane way to cull them? I don't have the time with exams coming up to look after over 100 hatchlings and I don't want to risk them dying of starvation. I have tried giving them away but people only want a maximum of 5 :(

I just throw them in the trash or let other critters eat them.

I would feed them to some of your other critters vs. tossing them in the trash.

I accidentally knocked the tub on the floor, which meant an excited dog stamped all over them :( Managed to salvage 7, not ideal but I guess it did the job! Will axies eat the eggs or do they just eat the hatchlings when they spot them moving? Will try it in future if I'm in a similar predicament though, thanks!
The critter caviar that is! Not the dog stamping on them

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
