I have a 30 gallon aquarium with 2 axolotls who really hate strong filters. A couple of months ago it was suggested to me to buy a sponge filter, because they are not as stressful as other kinds of filters. I've never heard of them before. Where do I buy them and how much do they cost?

My axolotls were sick, but they're all better now. >:)<

You can always make your own
I use a couple in my frog tank and my lotl tank, but have some filter floss and ceramic balls. That way you can have them as big or small(ish) as you like. Just look it up on the video "tube"

Sponge filters are SUPER cheap and available at practically any fish shop.

You'll need an air pump to run it, but overall, the entire setup shouldn't cost you more than $20.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
