Spring break is approaching, and I won't be spending it on campus. I asked my dad if he would look after Leviathan, but he thought it would be less stressful if I just left him by himself for a week rather than trying to drive him home and then drive him back to campus. What do you guys think, and what would be the best way to leave him without worrying about him starving/getting sick/etc?

First, how old is your Axolotl? Full grown Axolotls can actually go awhile without food, and I wouldn't fret about a week. The biggest concern is that the tank is kept cool and the water parameters are in good condition the entire time.

Also, I love your Axie's name :)!

He's about five inches. My dorm requires our windows to be shut and everything to be unplugged when we leave, which'll probably be bad for him. Hmm

They probably require "unplugged' for fire prevention. I'd be fairly certain they won't check, and absolutely certain they won't fully cut power to the building (all sorts of problems with that).

If there aren't rules against pets in your contract, I would talk to housing to be sure. Be absolutely sure there aren't rules first, or you could be screwed if you say something.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
