Hi I'm new on the forum I have kept newts in the past and have had some experience with amphibians. I am looking into doing some research into mandarin salamanders/ crocodile newts. Just looking into there basic husbandry and breeding wondering if anyone can help, thanks

Welcome! Mandarin and crocodile newts are a diverse category. There are species that are almost completely terrestrial and others that are almost completely aquatic, so it's impossible to give any general recommendations for this group, beyond 'basic newt care'. I'd recommend starting by browsing the caresheets and articles at Caudata Culture, and also reading through the threads in the Tylototriton section of this forum.

Thanks for your help. I have kept fire bellied newts before. Have done some work with other amphibians through my course and working in a pet store. Are they a hard species to keep

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
