A new "old" member here, in more ways than one ! I have kept amphibians etc almost all of my life, (over 30 years) but "gave up" a few years ago. I think I am now ready to get back into the swing of things. I am interested in and have kept "most" amphibian family's over the years, but my favorites had to be the fire salamanders, and I kept them for many many years outside here in Northumberland, UK. This is a northern County for our non UK friends, and it gets pretty cold up here ! I kept my fires without undue problems even in the harshest winters, I simply made sure they were well covered and they thrived.
I shall be constructing some new outdoor enclosures in the next few months and hope to be "stocking " up sooner than later !

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
