Could someone please tell me what this is and what to feed it. I want to keep him so bad and have already named him, but don't know how to care for him. I am willing to let him go if I don't obtain information soon because I don't want him to die.

Good luck. These guys can be kind of touchy.

Most states forbid the re-release of animals once they've been taking into captivity. Please do not release it back into the wild.

Thank you for the information, but he has gone back home because I was afraid he would die due to me not knowing how to care for him properly.

As far as releasing him, I had just caught him a couple hours prior to this post and released him in the same location he was caught in.

At least now if I find another one, I can properly care for him and hopefully keep him for a long time. I do not however want to bring something into my home and shorten its lifespan due to not being prepared to meet it's needs.

Once again....
Thanks.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
