Hi, I'm new..obviously. Considering an Axolotl but still researching them first. This place seems to be the go to for info!

You are definitely in the right place! Welcome!

Welcome to the site! You should find everything you need here and more. Remember to look at axolotl.org, too, which is a sister site of this one (just info, though - the forum is here).

Welcome, please feel free to ask questions if you cannot find a link or the answer whatever the question.
I spent a few weeks studying this site when i knew i was getting some baby axies two years ago and it was time well spent. Also gives time to prepare the correct enviroment for your addition when you are ready to purchase.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
