Hello
My axie seems like constipated, she's eating eagerly but she seems to move with difficulty, like she has trouble swimming up for air and she's not swimming or moving much around the tank...

I put her in the fridge a day ago but she hasn't pooped yet, she's more quiet but would that help at all or is it better to leave her in her tank?
My fridge is at about 9-10 °C is that alright for her?

thanks!

Adult axolotls don't usually move around much. Swimming too much is actually a sign of stress.

What makes you think she's constipated?

she's been eating sand lately, I saw her spit some... she never did this before and she seems to have trouble swimming to the surface too ... she looks like she's heavier, I know her and she moves a lot more, she swims (she lives in a 1.5 m tank with another axie) and lately she's not doing much swimming... I have her in a tupper now, she's relaxed but she hasn't pooped yet... I had her in the fridge but I don't think it was doing any difference so I put her in a container so she's not stressed trying to swim up for air...

is it possible that she's eating sand? she never did this before but I see her spit sand... she's back into her tank by the way, she's been moving a lot since I put her back, she's hungry and responsive but I'm worried that she may be eating the sand and that may cause trouble...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
