Hi, I recently just acquired 4 breeding adults(2 wild and 2 leucistic) and 15 young fry. I saw them on a local craigslist post and I liked the way they looked and picked them up. I am from Green Bay, WI, if anyone is near and would like to trade or have an extra male, I would love to add to my group of 1 male and 3 females. They seem to be doing fine but I have 1 question. I have the 4 in a 40 breeder, a little more than half full of water, and I recently just bought 4 big peices of purified wood, heavy and if they keep swimming into it when i open the lights, it could probably hurt them, any suggestions? should they be ok, or should i remove the purified wood? thanks

You'll need a lot more water for 4. Fill that tank up!

I don't put wood in my tank just because it stains the water.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
