Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum but not to amphibians.

When I was 8 years old I did a school project on frogs and became obsessed. A few months later my mom bought me an African Clawed frog who I named Pudgy. That was 21 years ago and guess what? I still have him :D

I also have 3 Chinese fire bellied newts who have been with me for about 7 years now.

I'm hoping to add another frog to the family sometime soon and I'm looking forward to getting some tips and suggestions about setting up a vivarium here on the forum.

Welcome to the forum!

Sounds like you've given Pudgy and the newts a pretty good life. I don't know the normal lifespan of ACF's, but 21 years seems like a good run!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
