i currently have a 33 gallon tank with a tropical community fish in it.. i have amazon sword and aponogeton live plants, im getting a bigger tank for my fish and im going to have the 33 house an axie.. it will probably have play sand in the bottom but i can get potted plants for it, the tank doesnt have the best lighting, only 1 24 inch "aqua glow" light.. how many axolotls would live comfortably in a 33 gallon? i want 1 or 2  i would like to know what plants would you reccomend for and axolotl tank, i prefer only live plants in my tanks.. thanks for any help!!

i dont have much experience with plants but i would recommend java ferns or java moss their very herdy plants

Just remember that your axolotl may like to dig up your plants so dont have them in gravel, you may need to fertilise your plants to help them grow just check that its ok for axolotls, i believe i read that api leaf zone is ok (cant find the source), start off with java fern and see how its goes

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
