Hello Everyone,
I live in the US in South Carolina.
About a week ago, I was out raking leaves (from last fall) and found this little guy/gal. She was under the leaves about 60 yards from a part-time creek Let assume it a girl because she is pretty chunky.( I think the males are skinnier)

I went out and bought an aquarium and supplies to try to make her a decent home.
She is still very skittish and I'm not sure if she is eating.
If I can manage to keep her alive and happy, I would like to try breeding some P. Rubers. But first I will need to find a mate and ensure I have the right conditions.
Still a lot of research to do.
Wish me luck.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
