Hey, some of you may know I was working on and trying to find a breeder or somoene to sell a fire salamander. I finally found one and it arrived last week. He seems to like his new home. He hides alot though, until i put some crickets in there for him then his head pops up and he comes crawlin out and starts hunting..and he keeps hunting until he gets it. I love watching him, he seems pretty mellow. Please let me know what you think of him (does he seem normal and healthy?) and his set-up and if i should change or improve it. the substrate is a 50/50 mix of topsoil and eco earth, and a bottom 2" thick layer of pea gravel. I have some frozen water bottles ontop wrapped in a towel to keep the tank cool..about 66 degrees F. Also does anyone know what subspecies he his? its first my first time taking care of a salamander, but I want another :) ANY thoughts and input is appreciated. thanks guys.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
