Hello everyone. I'm looking for some advice please. I went to feed my fire salamander tonight, and immediately noticed a bumb on the side of its head where the glands are. One he had finished eating the worm I gave, I lifted him out to inspect. As soon as I did, the bumb started to ooze(drip) a bit of white liquid, I'm assuming puss. I lightly squeezed( very gently of course!) The area and more puss, as well as a bit of blood came out. I wiped up whatever came out, and tried to drain a bit more without hurting the animal. I then applied a layer of polysporin( neosporin) -minus the pain reliever, to the area. I have since placed him on a paper down quarantine tank in the fridge.

I noticed on the illness article with pictures, there was a photo posted that showed a similar case with a Taricha with the same type of abcess on the gland. Any suggestions for me?

Any impute is appreciated, and I will try to post a picture tomorrow.

Thank you.

One of my Cynops pyrrhogaster had a little bump on his back just off his spine. I never paid much attention to it - it seemed like it had always been there. Then it suddenly grew larger, and one day it burst. He had salt baths and refrigeration for several days and the wound healed and nothing has reappeared in the spot again. I'm sorry this is probably no real help, just hope your salamander gets better the same way.

Thank you Evut, I checked this morning, lump is still there, but now appears to be similar to a blood blister. No apparent puss or infection is coming out of the area. Cleaned again, put polysporin and back in the fridge.

I took some pictures with my phone but I'm having no luck on uploading them directly to here.

Thanks for replying. It's appreciated.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
