Traveling with Ambystomids

Hello all!
In a few weeks I will be moving from Michigan to Missouri by car. I am anticipating the trip will take 10-12 hours with a few short stops. I will be taking adult Axolotls, sub-adult Axolotls, juvenile Axolotls, adult Blue Spotteds, adult Long-Toes, adult Easter Tigers, and an adult Marbled Salamander. I am thinking of packing the smaller animals in deli cups, the larger in tupperware, putting them all in a Styrofoam box with an ice pack and the air conditioning on. Anybody have a better way to do this?
Additionally, should I pack the adult terrestrial salamanders individually or will they be okay together in the tupperware?

I would fridge them for a day or two first, then pack them all separately. I'm sure they'd be fine together, but if they're separate they'll be less likely to accidentally injure each other :) Make sure you pack lots of spare water so you can do changes along the way. Good luck!
 
Why would I fridge them first? I have small juvies and I don't want to stunt their growth. Just to mellow them out?
 
When I have received new additions, they are generally in smallish plastic containers with lots of moss or slightly moistened kitchen paper. The aquatic ones where in plastic bags ( like the ones you get when you buy fish) with water , the outside padded out with crumpled news paper, polystyrene beads.

Thanks! I think I'm going to go ahead with the original plan and add in some packing peanuts.

Yup! I fridge my axolotl before moving him because it keeps him relaxed. The goal is to have your animals be as stress free as possible during the move.
 
I may do that for the adults, but I think it'll do more harm to the juvies than good.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
