Hi. My name is Katie. I'm from western Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh (US). I don't own any newts or salamanders. I joined because I'm interested in Axolotls. I figured this would be a wonderful place to get information about them and decide weather they're a good fit for me. While I don't have any amphibians, I do have a giant dog, 2 cats, a bearded dragon, and 4 betta fish. So I'm familiar with animal care, just not with this type of creature. I'm looking forward to learning more and possibly getting a few for myself.

Hey there Zombee Kat (Katie)! :D

Welcome to Caudata, I had an Axolotl a few years ago, but had to give him up when I moved house. I'm a long time user of this site although I haven't started posting until today, mainly because every question I've needed to ask has already been answered well and succinctly

My name's Hayley and I'm from Devon in the UK pleased to meetcha!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
