I can't get my juvie to eat in front of me (or at all during the day, honestly), and I don't know whether I should be concerned or not. I brought him home last Sunday, and he was eating right out of the tongs until yesterday. He's in a semi aquatic tank (just until he's big enough to live with Leviathan) and the land portion is lit up during the day. Could that be his issue? Please let me know <3

What is the water temp? I wouldn't be worried about the light, but I would be worried about temp and water quality.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by him not eating during the day. Does he eat at night? Are you sure, or do the snails (or whatever) in the tank eat his food overnight? Not clear.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
