So I am beyond new to the sally world (we got our first tiger in December as a mud pup and now have a total of four). I have 2 tiger salamanders (one is a barred and the other we figure is a botched mix) that I got as water dogs and they have been "mating". The male has left his stuff in the pond and she has taken it multiple times. The problem is she never laid eggs. Idk if she ate them or how long it even takes a sally to get ready to..... Not a clue what I'm doing!!!

Btw I never planned on breeding them.

Welcome! It's great that you saw breeding behavior. Captive breeding of tiger sals is very rare, because they evidently require a large enclosure size, preferably outdoors. What type and size of enclosure do you have?

I have them in a 40gal fish aquarium and they have a 1 gal pool made from a container (which they love). I'm afraid if she did lay eggs that she ate them or something.... I am working on building a rain maker for them

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
