I thought I would do an FYI for anyone experiencing the same symptoms with their axolotl. 2 days aga I notice 2 red spots (like pimples) on my axie. I took him out of the tank & in the fridge. Yesterday his legs had gone red & the 2 spots had turned into about 6. Today I took him to the vets. He has what is known as red leg - where they bleed internally due to a bacteria in their system.
Boo is now on a 10 day course of antibiotics. Enrotril & Flagyl.

Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who sees these symptoms. In 2 days, Boo has gone from 2 spots - to internal bleeding that has spread from one end to another.

Hope this stuff works

I wish you and Boo ( great name by the way i love it!) the best of luck with his treament! Fingers crossed poor little guy x

Thanks so much. Boo died today  Very sad day, he was such a beautiful colour & just a sweet little thing

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
