Because I always thought they were females. My male axie Xotl drops spermatophores in the tank pretty often but nothing happens. Are they females or maybe ....slightly males?
Or is Xotl just a poor guy who can't get a girl? (Or his 'funny packages' don't work, if that's even possible in axies)

Pictures below.
Spotl (wildtype, Spotl has a slight lump when you look at the right side, but it looks less on the left side)
Pangifrane (leucistic)

I hope they are :D

More people who think they are females?

Bulky and small cloacals... they look female to me!

Thanks!
I already thought that they looked like 'egg bellies'. But they don't want to breed somehow. My male axie keeps dropping spermatophores and the girls ignore it.

Or they are just waiting for the right moment...

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
