I have two 5" axolotls, one leucistic and one gfp wildtype growing out in a two footer and three 4" axolotls, two leucistic and one wildtype growing out in another two footer, and I was wondering if I could put the 5 in a 4 foot tank (72 Gallon bow) to grow out a bit more together?

One inch size shouldn't make a difference. However all axolotls are different. They may nip just cuz that's how they are. If they do I would separate them and try again a month or two later.

They will be fine in the nice big tank. Offer plenty of places for them to hide if necessary from each other, and generally keep an eye on them. When you feed them, I would try to do offer food in different spots just in case one or two are more greedy than the others.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
