My little fella is contipated (I tried a few feeds with JBL Novolotl - never again). He's not been for a month. He's been in the fridge for 14 days now. I can see the start of something emerging; he's albino, so it's easy to see. But it's been like that for the last week witout any progress. I offered him a samll worm, but he wasn't interested.

So my question is, do I just keep in in the fridge, or is there anything else that can be done to clear him out? Any advice will be grately received

If he hasn't pooped it out yet, it's unlikely that further fridging will help. It may be beneficial to take him out and feed him to get his digestive tract moving again.

When you say you see something at the cloaca, does it look like poop, or flesh? Prolapse is a concern.

Thanks for that. I will release him from the fridge. It's definitely not flesh I see emerging. I think it's going to be something pretty huge when it finally gets passed, poor thing.

Thanks again for the information. This forum has been so helpful since I got him last year.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
