Hello everyone,
My name is Becky and I just discovered the fascinating world of axolotls. I don't have one yet, but I'm working on getting a good setup and then I will be looking for one. I currently have two birds, so I'm used to having pets with unique needs that sometimes require a lot of research. I have a chronic illness that keeps me home quite a bit, so it's nice to have some critters around for company.

My other interests include music, crochet, photography, woodburning, reading, and researching random things. I teach piano and woodwind instruments part time and sell my creations at craft fairs.

I'll be exploring this forum a lot in the near future, so feel free to introduce yourself. I'll be sure to stop back and post pictures when I get an axolotl!

Hello Becky - welcome to the forum and the exciting world of caudates!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
