My profile picture is Mickie, my new axie (new to me...my friend had him for several years)
We live in Michigan so i see the challenge i'll have with him, but i'm hope i up to it.

i've never had a pet like this before...dogs, cats...other kinds of fish...and my grandkids have a tank with some geckos and other lizard types.....but mickie is my first...

i've found mickie to have a very interesting character, he has attitude issues sometimes but, all in all i think i'll come out on top.

you'll probably see me here with tons of questions...i'm a worrier...always worried i'm not getting it right.........

welcome Queed! Im a worrier and new to axolotls too so keep you eye on the forum and the lovely people here are a wealth of knowledge :)

From one Michigander to another, welcome!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
