I wouldn't say this is a problem for my juvie otherwise I would have posted in the "sick axolotl" thread. However, she has a deformed leg...

As you can see, its quite obviously bent back and upward. Her foot has two "normal" toes, one with stunted growth and two tiny little ones. One of her others has 6 toes! She's still able to move it and swim without trouble. In fact, due to its position it looks like she's waving when she swims..

I thought I'd post as I've never seen anything quite like it. It's been like it since she was tiny and I quite honestly thought it'd get bitten off by a naughty tankmate but apparently not..

Does anyone think it could cause problems later on in life or eventually end its rein of terror by being bitten off or even dropping off?!

It doesn't seem to be affecting her and it's kind of cute.....instantly reminded me of the Jim Carrey movie "Liar Liar"....

It's shouldn't be a problem. It just one thing that makes it different than the rest. There are some axies that don't even have legs and are doing fine.

I find it incredibly cute and she's a beaut all the same to me!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
