My axie, Squiggles, When i first got him, He was very bloated. still is. there is something in his stomach I think.. Im not sure what to do.. Ive showed pictures before, i'll post my picture of it again, But today, all day I saw him floating bum-up.. I think he can get to the bottom if he really wants.. but this is what he's been like all day. ive seen him on the bottom once today, that was only after i went over and took pictures.

If you got him from a pet store and he was kept on gravel, he probably swallowed some gravel and is having trouble passing it. Hopefully will pass it in a couple of days

Ive had him for a while, he hasnt passed any gravel.. he still eats like a pig, And was pooping normally before.. But i havent seen any for a while.. its really weird. he was kept on sand.. But it wasnt super fine, heres a pic of him in his tank at the pet store.

Good on the pet shop! However, looking at the pic, those snails are just the right size to be a problem, and from the pics, it wouldn't surprise me if he's gobbled one up... I'd suggest a spell in the fridge to see if he can pass it/whatever else he's gobbled up. I'm sure someone else will chime in in a moment to offer some more advice :)

Yeah i was thinking it might be a snail too. But since they're so bright orange, Wouldnt it be kinda noticable? Wouldnt it be orange instead of black? o: or at least give off a small tint of orange?

How long is a while? I would've thought he'd have passed something by now. His belly looks awfully big in the first image and I can't imagine him being able to pass something that big if it IS a solid object such as the snail. If that's the case, a vet visit is in order.

A while is like.. about 28th of june or something.. I dont think I can bring him to the vet.. as the vet costs ALOT and I have no money atm :/ Maybe if i just put him in the fridge he'll barf up whatever he swallowed? His stomach is really big :/ You can only notice it from the side though.

Yeah, I'd be putting him in the fridge anyway, and then when you can make it to a vet, put his container into a cooler with some ice bricks...And if he manages to get it out before then, all the better :), and if not, his metabolism should be slowed down enough that you can eventually get him to the vet.
Also, I'd suggest searching the site for impaction- there are some really interesting threads that may offer you some assistance.

Alright, Thanks for your help. On the plus side.. Hes no longer floating like that, just swim/floating around like always, Or just chilling on the bottom.

I think i found the problem! I think this is Squiggles new way of telling me to feed her! Ive noticed that everytime shes like that, if i offer her a fish, she eats it, then sinks back to the bottom :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
