Not sure if my axie is sick or not... but:

I bought two axolotls at an expo and have been feeding them bloodworms once a day. Initially, the now (presumably) sick one ate the most. Last night he ate a few bloodworms, but not near as much as normal, while the other one chowed down and ate everything I put in front of him. Tonight I couldn't get him to eat anything (while again, the other ate everything i put in front of him).

I was under the impression that juvies ate a ton, which is why I'm curious about this ones appetite. Is it sometimes normal for them to skip a few days? Hopefully I'm just overreacting...

I have been feeding them separately, but they live together all other times.

Hey there,
I wouldn't be too worried, because my axolotls also only ate every couple of days first after I got them. As long as they are eating every couple of days they should be fine but I'm sure soon enough when they are used to their new environment they'll eat every day.^__^
However if they do start to act strange/unusual then search this website for help again.:)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
