I want to give my Neurergus a deeper red colour. Now I've tried achieving that by feeding them artemia twice a week but I'm not satisfied with the results. I know some people use colourings, so do you? How can they safely be fed to aquatic newts? Let's hear your ideas.

I feed daphnia, live bloodworm and brineshrimp, i dont use any colourings, mine are very bright. I also feed lesser waxworm and earthworms but i think most of the colour comes from the daphnia and brineshrimp.
When they are terrestrial some of them lose a bit of the brightness but once they are breeding and eating daphnia and brineshrimp the colour brightens again.
I have not used colour enhancers but i have seen some new ones available from Repashy.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
