Okkk so i have 2 cutie pies, one named Wally the oth
er named BillyBob. Wally is the younger of the two, BillyBob being almost fully grown.
Now, lately ive noticed BillyBob has been losing his cute little fluffy looking things on the side of his head. i dont know what theyre actually called so cute fluffy looking things works lol. Hes always had big bushy long ones, and now theyve well almost dissapeared?
whats going on? is he ok?
Note: BillyBob & Wally never fight & have been together for 9 months

Heya :)
First off, they're called rami...But gill fluff works well :p
One thing that comes to mind immediately (and has been the cause in both occasions I've had this happen) is water flow- how strong is your filter's output? Is there any way you can reduce the flow?
Just in case, could you post:

Temperature?
pH?
Ammonia?
Nitrite?
Nitrate?
Tank size?
Tank Pics?
Type of filter and how it's set up?
What chemicals you've been using in the tank?
Diet?
And most importantly, pics of your axies- front on, from the side and from above if possible so we can see what's happening?
Hope to hear from you soon!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
