Question: Female axolotl bit male axolotl's tail off?

Right off?? Our Girl was pretty rough on our boy when trying to get him to spawn. But if he is badly injured I would consider moving him. we have since moved our boy out he is much happier now. Good luck.

A little more detail would help  If its just a nip off the end of the tail I wouldn't worry - axies nip and these things happen! It should regrow nicely. However if she was able to bite the whole tail off, I would consider seperating them. Are they the same/similar in size?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
