So I have removed the tiny gravel, finally, and just doing a combo of a marble slab, some tiles, and the sand.
I didnt take Officer Puckles out of her tank when i did this, and some of the sand went all crazy and has now murked up the tank. I'm running the filter to clear it up (will probably take a couple days or so)
So my question is, are axolotls ok with being in murky, sandy water? Or should I attempt to try and find her amist the haze and take her out and fridge her until it settles?

Sorry i know I'm late and I'm sure the sand has well and truely settled, but I would definitely oppose the idea of fridging, please dont fridge your axolotls unless you believe there is a true cause for concern, they can just be put in another container with fresh water. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
